IFA was granted full IFAC

IFAC (the International Federation of Accountants) has announced that the Institute of Financial Accountants (the “IFA”), an associate member body since 2008, has been granted full membership status.

We have taken our place at the top table of the global accounting profession, alongside the UK’s five chartered bodies, as well as national accountancy organizations from 125 countries and jurisdictions.

Ms Sylvia Siu JP, BSc, MBA, LL.M, FHKIArb, FCIArb, FHKIArb is a Consultant Solicitor of a famous solicitors firm in Hong Kong and is also the founder of Hong Kong Mediation Center, an Accredited Mediator of CEDR (UK), HK Law Society, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and an Arbitrator of several Arbitration Commissions in China. She actively takes part in various legal, social and voluntary community activities or services and also contributes her time to promote mediation in Hong Kong and in China.

IFA Russia – Hong Kong “SME Business Opportunities in Hong Kong and China” is an important event organized by IFAHK this year (assisted by Hong Kong Association of Professional Accountants “HKAPA”).

A Group of Russian delegates leading by Dr. Igor Zhuravelev, IFA/IAB International Vice-President, rector IPD “Postgraduate-RAA” and Mr. Alexander Ruf, President of Russian Collegium of Auditors, and Mr. Malcolm Dean (President of International Association of Registered Financial Planners, “IARFP”) visited Hong Kong from 28 October to 2 November 2011. The objectives of this visit are (1) Searching for mutual business development network; (2) Mentoring the auditing in new environment conditions; and (3) Developing business opportunities in Hong Kong and China. Apart from the above objectives, they also visited a wide variety of attractions in Hong Kong such as the Peak, Stanley, and sightseeing in Victoria Harbour with “A Symphony of Lights” show on a cruise.

One major event within this period was a half-day conference held on Saturday 29 October 2011. That event included three parts which starting with a lunch, then followed by a certificate presentation ceremony for the graduate disabled students (described as above), and the last part was a seminar with three topics.

During the lunch time, the Russian Delegates shared their cultures with the members of IFA and HKAPA. Everybody got a chance to socialize with each other.

The last part of the day was a seminar with three topics: (1) Doing Business in Hong Kong, (2) Doing Business in China and (3) Overview of IPO in Hong Kong conducted by Mr. K.S. Liu, Mr. Michael Ma and Mr. Franklin Lau respectively. The Russian guests can knew more about doing business in Hong Kong and China through the speakers’ presentations and the Q & A sessions.

On behalf of IFAHK, we wish the Russian guests the very best and to thank them for their visit to Hong Kong.

(由英國註冊財務會計師公會香港分會及香港傷健協會合辨)

IFA-SE Inauguration Ceremony held September last year kicked off this meaningful project. With no former examples to follow, IFA-HK started its charity venture of 會計企業先鋒 (A Pioneer of Accounting SE). Joined hands with 香港傷健協會Hong Kong PHAB Association (“PHAB” stands for Physically Handicapped and Able-Bodied) and with the advices given by Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (the “IVE”), the first class was started in March 2011.

Ms. Elsie Liu, the Chairlady of Hong Kong Accounting Professionals Association (“HKAPA”) and Mr Simon Wong, a council member of IFAHK, devoted their time to be our honorary lecturers for the first level and second level classes. IFAHK council members and supporters helped to be tutors in supporting PHAB colleagues in tutor classes held on every weekend. Students worked hard in these six months and attended two internal examinations in June and August. They had also tried the LCC public examination in early November.

A certificate presentation ceremony was held for the graduates on 29 October 2011. Graduates’ parents, PHAB representatives, IFAHK council members, IFAHK guests from the UK and Russia congratulated the graduates. Ms. Elsie Liu and Mr. Chan Siu Tai (the graduate representative) shared their experience and feelings for being a part of this meaningful project. This was a very special occasion for the disabled students, especially their parents. They were very proud to see their children receiving the accounting certificates which really got no words to describe their happiness. Receiving an accounting certificate means more than anything to them and it gives them an opportunity to work in the commercial world despite their health problems. We would like to thank the lecturers, Ms. Elsie Liu and Mr. Simon Wong for their time, effort, devotion and patience of teaching the students. Mr Chan Siu Tai, the student representative of the accounting class, also deserved a big thank for his courage to share the feeling in front of the audiences.

24 Oct 2011 Canadian Certified General Accountants Association of Hong Kong (“CGAHK”) Annual Dinner 2011

CGA-HK is one of IFA-HK's supporting organizations. It staged an Annual Dinner on 24 October 2011 at The Hong Kong Bankers Club, 43/F., Glouscester Tower, The Landmark, Central, Hong Kong. The Guest of Honor was Honorable Ip Lau Shuk Yee, Regina.

Our Chairman, Mr. Tanny Yu and Honorable Secretary, Mr. Ken Choi, represented IFA-HK to join that joyful evening. The evening kicked off by a Welcoming Speech by the President of CGA-HK, Mr. Stephen Chan, followed by a sharing speech by Honorable Ip Lau Shuk Yee, Regina and a ceremony of certificate presentation to this year’s graduates. The evening ended in happy and harmonious atmosphere amongst lucky draws and toasting.

9 July 2011 IVE Prize Presentation Ceremony
Accounting Software Applications Competition 2011

IFAHK is committed to support development of accountancy in Hong Kong. Among other means, IFAHK has been for years a sponsor and one of the supporting organizations of the Competition for Secondary School Students in Accounting Software Applications organized by Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (“IVE”). IFA was invited and our Vice Chairman Mr Ocean Chan represented the Institute to attend the Prize Presentation Ceremony held at the CYMA Hall, IVE (Kwai Chung).

The event provided a perfect venue for IFAHK Branch to mingle with other educational providers and professional associations to exchange views and to foster relationships.
